Chapter 1 - Downstairs
The Laundry Room is a room.
The description of Laundry Room is "[unless visited]You wake up in dark and unfamiliar room, with no memory of what you did last night, and a slight headache.[paragraph break][otherwise]A poorly lit and slightly damp smelling laundry room. [end unless]Along one edge of the room is a plaid green futon[if player is on the futon] (On which you're currently seated)[end if] with a small end table next to it. On the opposite side of the room is a staircase leading up. You can see a washing machine [if the washing machine's drum is open](which is open) [end if]and a dryer [if the dryer's drum is open](which is open) [end if]under the stairs."
The basement stair is above the Laundry room and south of the Main Hallway. The basement stair is a door and scenery. It is open and not openable. Understand "stairs" as stair. The description is "[if location is Main Hallway]The stairway leads back down to the laundry room.[otherwise]A sturdy looking stairway leading upstairs.[end if][unless Main Hallway is visited] The doorway at the top is closed, but if you had to guess you'd say it opens up to some kind of hallway."
Before going up when the main hallway is unvisited:
Let N be a random number from 0 to 3;
send-spam rule in N turns from now.
An end table is in the Laundry Room. On it is an alarm clock and the cellphone. The end table is scenery.
The description of the end table is "You're pretty sure you saw one of these in an Ikea catalog the other day. It's called a [one of]BJÜVIK[or]KÅLARMRAD[or]BLORKSVIK[or]VÖÖM[or]JÜKUR[at random] or something." Understand "small table" as the end table.
The description of the alarm clock is "[one of]With a healthy red glow[or]In bright red digits[or]In blindingly bright red seven segment digits[or]Now seared into the back of your retinas[or]Mesmerizingly[then at random], the clock reads [time of day]." Understand "alarmclock" as the alarm clock.
Instead of taking the alarm clock:
say "It's plugged into the wall. No point in trying to cary it around."
The futon is an enterable supporter in the laundry room. The player is on the futon. Understand "bed" or "couch" as the futon. The futon is scenery. The description is "Why anyone would buy a plaid green futon is beyond you, but somehow you wound up sleeping on it apparently. It looks like it's stained with something, but given the condition of the room, that's hardly surprising."
The sticky note is hidden under the futon. Understand "post-it" or "yellow note" or "password" or "passcode" or "paper" as the sticky note. The description of the sticky note is "A yellow sticky note with '1234' written across it in bold letters. [one of][paragraph break]Why anyone would need to write down a password of '1234' is kind of a mystery. Wouldn't that be the first thing you'd guess?[paragraph break]'I guess someone's always building a better idiot.' you think to yourself.[or]It looks like the glue on the back should still hold up, although there is some dust embedded in it.[stopping]"
Rule for printing the name of the sticky note when the sticky note is not handled: say "bit of paper".
The washing machine is in the Laundry Room. Understand "washer" as the washing machine. The washing machine is a Clothes processor. The description is "A simple enough device to operate, even in your condition." The washing machine is scenery.
The clothes dryer is in the Laundry Room. Understand "dryer" as the clothes dryer. The clothes dryer is a Clothes processor. The description is "A simple enough device to operate, even in your condition." The clothes dryer is scenery. The clothes dryer's drum contains a pair of boots. A pair of boots is a pair of shoes. The description of a pair of boots is "Somewhat scuffed up due to their trip through the dryer, but they will still protect your feet." Understand "boot" or "shoe" or "shoes" or "pair of shoes" as the boots.
The washing machine's drum contains a pair of unwashed pants. The description of the unwashed pants is "You could get away with wearing them for another day." The unwashed pants are a pair of pants. The washing machine's drum is open.
The brick is hidden under the washing machine. The initial appearance is "[unless handled]A brick is propping up one edge of the washing machine."
After examining the washing machine:
if the player is not on a supporter and the brick is off-stage, try looking under the washing machine;
Every turn when the clothes dryer is switched on and the dryer's drum contains the pair of boots:
If the location is the laundry room and the dryer's drum contains the pair of boots, say "The dryer is vibrating around and making a loud thumping noise.";
If the location is not the laundry room and the dryer's drum contains the pair of boots, say "You can hear a rattling noise coming from the laundry room."
Every turn when the clothes dryer is switched on and the dryer's drum contains nothing:
If the location is the laundry room, say "You hear the dryer humming along."
Every turn when the washing machine is switched on and the location is the laundry room:
say "You hear the washing machine [one of]filling up[or]rinsing[or]spinning[or]shaking[or]rinsing[or]spinning[or]shaking[or]washing[or]draining[or]spinning[or]ending it's cycle[or]beeping[stopping]."
Before opening a drum (called the drum):
if the drum is part of the washing machine:
if the washing machine is switched on:
say "You better switch it off first.";
try switching off the washing machine;
if the drum is part of the dryer:
if the clothes dryer is switched on:
say "You better switch it off first.";
try switching off the dryer.
After switching on the washing machine for the third time, record "Persistent" as achieved.
After switching on the dryer for the third time, record "Persistent" as achieved.
After switching on the cellphone for the third time, record "Persistent" as achieved.
Every turn when the player is in the laundry room:
if the location has been the laundry room for 6 turns, record "Lazed and Confused" as achieved.
Before looking under a noun,
if the player is not on the noun and the player is on a supporter and the noun is not on the table, say "you can't see under [the noun] while you're sitting on [the futon]." instead.
Before going up:
If the player is on the futon, try getting off the futon instead;
Before switching on a noun:
If the player is on the futon, try getting off the futon;
Before switching off a noun:
If the player is on the futon, try getting off the futon;
Before opening a noun:
If the player is on the futon, try getting off the futon;
Continue the action.
